It wasn’t long after the stimulus package had been announced that Nate L. of Colorado Springs, CO found himself challenged to consider giving the money he’d receive away to someone else who might need it more.
In a video Lake posted online, he shares that he was originally challenged by a friend who wrote, “If you’re still making an income during this time, you should really consider giving away your stimulus to someone who needs it more.”
As Lake reflected on the words from his friend he knew it was a great idea but was unsure of who to share his check with. It didn’t take long to realize that maybe some of the people he was closest to would benefit more from the stimulus money than he would.
Lake split his stimulus evenly between two of his siblings who had not qualified to receive the stimulus money but were in a tough financial situation due to COVID-19.
“It was a no brainer,” Lake said. “I just decided to split it right down the middle — $600.00 each — and they were able to benefit from it a lot more than I could have ever benefited from that money.”
Lake posted online to encourage others to do the same and emphasizes that your choice to give doesn’t need to be extravagant. If you are looking for a way to give during this difficult time, consider looking around to those you are closest with — a friend, a family member, or a neighbor.
